When trying to decide on an idea for an environmental sculpture, my first thought was the Great Pacific Garbage Patch growing bigger and bigger every year. It got me thinking of how much plastic, that could be recycled, is pushed out into Earth's oceans. This sculpture pictures a water bottle pouring pieces of plastic out; it's all plastic that can be recycled, too. If plastic keeps getting pumped into Earth's bodies of water, soon it will be hard to filter out tiny broken pieces of plastic from the water to drink. To symbolize this possible tragedy, smaller bits of plastic are positioned near the top of the bottle lid, while the plastic near the bottom forms a growing pile of pollution. An amazing artist who focuses on similar concerns is Angela Haseltine Pozzi. She collects plastic scraps off of beaches creates animal figures out of them to raise awareness of marine habitat damage.
